Week 20 August 18 – 24 Calendar of the Soul by Rudolf Steiner in English, French, German

Namaste dear Well Wishers,

Hope your week was filled with new insights
and time for creative pursuits close to your heart.
If you are joining us for the first time, “Warm Greetings!”

We are spending time each week with one of the 52 verses from the Calendar of the Soul meditations written in 1912 by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925).

Today, on Saturday, August 18th 2012, we move to Verse 20 (Week of August 18th – 24th).  The verses were originally written in German by Rudolf Steiner, included here are translations into English and French.

20. Twentieth Week after Easter (August 18-24)

I feel at last my life’s reality
Which, severed from the world’s existence,
Would
in itself obliterate itself,
And building only on its own foundation,
Would in itself bring death upon itself.

20. Vingtième semaine: 18-24 août

Aujourd’hui seulement j’éprouve et sens mon être;
Coupé du vivant univers
Il ne pouvait, à lui-même réduit,
Que perdre sa lumière
Et ne construisant plus que sur mon propre sol,
Il ne pouvait que rencontrer la mort.

20. Woche: 18-24 August

So fühl ich erst mein Sein,
Das fern vom Welten-Dasein
In sich, sich selbst erlöschen
Und bauend nur auf eignem Grunde
In sich, sich selbst ertöten müsste.

The Meditations invite us to develop a deeper understanding of the spiritual forces at work throughout the year.

For Rudolf Steiner the year begins with Easter so the verses are numbered 1 to 26 for the summer half of the year (Easter to Michaelmas) and verses 27 to 52 for the winter months (Michaelmas to Palm Sunday).

Next week will be Verse 21 (August 27-31), until then, be well.
Kindest regards,
Sri Devi
