May the Road Rise Up to Meet You

Namaste Well Wishers,

As promised, some more Irish Blessings.  Here is one I often use to wish others well as their life journey takes them to another job, city or country:

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

In fact, a few years ago when three colleagues were leaving our school, I was designing farewell cards for each of them and as I was completing the cards with this Irish Blessing, on the television appeared three Irish priests singing this verse!  How about that for an Irish Blessing!!!

Here’s one I’ve just sent to a dear friend today on her birthday . . .

Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening,
And live every day as if it were your last.

Here are some Irish Blessings for Wife and Husband:

My Wife

A tender shoulder to rest upon.
A patient ear to sound upon.
A soft caress I depend upon.
A loving heart to rely upon.
All these things I find in you,
My only lover and my best friend.

My Husband

A strong arm to lean upon.
A tender shoulder to cry upon.
A patient ear to sound upon.
A firm chest to rest upon.
A loving heart to rely upon.
All these things I find in you,
My only lover and my best friend.

And to conclude for now, Irish Blessings for Grandma and Grandpa:

Grandma

A friend to tell your troubles to.
A Grandma is someone to hold dear
on every day throughout the year.
So, Grandma, today and every day
it needs no other words to say,
Thank you for everything you do
because we think the world of you.

Grandpa

The nearest thing
To the love of God . . .
is the love of an
Irish Grandpa’s heart.
